Campbell Police Raise Funds for Special Olympics

Campbell Police had both runners and supporters on the sidelines as they carried the Special Olympics torch late last week.

From Winchester Boulevard and Knowles Drive to Leigh and Hamilton avenues, rode their bicycles and ran on foot--all to benefit the annual Special Olympics of Northern California.

The PD raised nearly $1,400 on June 16 during the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is a fundraising campaign to benefit the Special Olympics.

This year's team consisted of runners, bicyclist and one Special Olympics athlete.

Motorcycle officers from the department's Traffic Team escorted the runners and bicyclists and provided traffic control. The Campbell team received the Flame of Hope torch from member of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office at Winchester and Knowles and handed it to Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office at Hamilton and Leigh avenues.

Businesses downtown came out to cheer on the PD and the team took a short beak at the , where city hall employees came out to show their support as well.
