Witnesses are coming forward with details about the red Volkswagen Jetta that's being associated with the disappearance of Sierra LaMar, according to the teen's mother.
News about a red Volkswagen Jetta being associated with the disappearance of Morgan Hill teen Sierra Lamar is apparently prompting witnesses to come forward, according to Marlene LaMar. “It’s just that, with the release of the vehicle that’s out and talking to the media, more people are coming forward,” LaMar said. “I can’t disclose specifically, but law enforcement is interviewing witnesses that are coming forward because of all of that. More people are coming forward, so that’s been a positive thing." Although detectives working on the LaMar case won’t release many details regarding the Volkswagen’s association, LaMar said authorities are currently looking into whether the VW is the right vehicle, and whether surveillance footage depicts…

Wednesday marks the two month anniversary of Sierra LaMar's disappearance, and more searches are already scheduled.
Friends and family of missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar are marking the two-month anniversary of her disappearance today with another search. Sierra, 15, disappeared after she left for school on the morning of March 16, prompting extensive searches of the area. Sheriff's investigators have said they believe her disappearance is an abduction. “This is not how I wanted to acknowledge this date,” Sierra’s father, Steve, said. “But I am grateful that the community continues to support her cause.” Despite Sierra’s multi-month absence, support remains strong for the Sobrato High Student, with more searches underway today and Saturday. “The KlaasKids Foundation is continuing to assist law enforcement and the LaMar family with future searches…

Investigators continue to learn more, but release little under assumption Sierra LaMar is alive.
The red, Volkswagen Jetta that investigators are associating with the kidnapping of Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar has yet to undergo forensic examination, and it’s not clear when it will happen. “The vehicle is in evidence, and will be examined at some point,” Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Cardoza said. Cardoza also said investigators aren't specifically commenting on what they’re looking for, and that they've identified the owner of the car, but haven't named any persons of interest. Limited details about the vehicle—captured in surveillance footage near key areas in the LaMar case—are being released as a precaution: Investigators don’t want to compromise the case and subsequently harm Sierra, who they believe is still alive. “A…
Divers will study items captured via sonar at Anderson, Almaden and Guadalupe reservoirs.
Sheriff’s divers are returning to Anderson, Almaden and Guadalupe reservoirs to verify objects that divers captured via sonar last week while searching for clues in the disappearance of Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar. “Some images, like in prior water searches, came up that were questionable,” Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Cardoza said. Questionable items that have appeared in past water searches include tires, vehicles, trees and large tree stumps, among other large objects. The divers will be returning to the reservoirs this week, starting at Anderson on Wednesday, and Almaden and Guadalupe reservoirs the following days. On Monday and Tuesday, divers returned to the Coyote Creek Watershed to verify areas of interest detected via…

Cell phone calls, texts and other distractions on the road earned nearly 6,000 Bay Area motorists citations from the California Highway Patrol last month, the CHP announced Friday. The 5,900 citations to drivers throughout the region came during the CHP's "It's Not Worth It" campaign to remind the public of the dangers distracted driving poses as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, according to CHP officials. "We were overwhelmed with the support here in the Bay Area," CHP Chief Teresa Becher said in a statement. "Our allied law enforcement agencies as well as many other public and private entities in the community stepped forward to make a difference. Some made a pledge, others posted the message on electronic signs or in…

San Jose Police searched for an hour for the two suspects but found nothing. The case is ongoing.
Four local schools including Branham High School had a "shelter in place" put on them after a man with a gun was seen nearby. The initial call came in to San Jose Police at 1:52 p.m. and the caller said he had arrived at his truck and found two people going through the bed of this truck," said San Jose Police Sgt. Jason Dwyer. "He challenged them and one suspect pulled a handgun. They both fled." The incident took place near Campbell Union High School District's Branham and two other elementaries: Reed and Hammer. "We contacted the schools because they were in the near proximity," Dwyer said. "We didn’t want students to be walking around campus while we were looking for these suspects. It was a dynamic situation. We thought the guy was in …

Next court hearing for popular San Jose nightclub operator Gholam "Ray" Shafazand scheduled for June 21.
The case against well-known San Jose nightclub operator Gholam "Ray" Shafazand, charged with one count of forcible rape from an incident that supposedly occurred at his Los Gatos home, is in a pretrial stage and waiting for more discovery, the prosecutor in charge of the proceedings said this week. There have been no hearings scheduled, but Shafazand's next court appearance is at 9:30 a.m., June 21, in Department 23 of the Santa Clara County Superior Court. "We're in a bit of a holding pattern," said Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Luis Ramos, adding that the prosecution and the defense are conducting tests and gathering as much information about the case before a preliminary hearing.
