His name is Juan Avila and I go to school with him. My teachers said it was his fault. He cross theRead More street WITHOUT wearing a helmet. If he did his brain wouldn't have suffer to much. He is now in the hospital and put to sleep. The doctors are waiting for his Brian to recover better before they could see if his brain is going to suffer. I don't know when he is getting better. He is now in acoma. These are according to what my teacher and councilor at Campbell Middle School.

That 14 year old boy is my only brother, I have no more siblings...He is in a very criticalRead More condition at the moment, sort of like a comma and half awake. We as family are also not sure of how the accident occured. All we know is that the bike did have reflectors on, but for now the only thing that matters is for him to respond and slowly recover. I totally understand the driver if he was scared and crying we understand that this was an accident and it could happen to anyone so we don't blame him... We have lots of people praying for him at different churches, and will have a priest come pray for him tomorrow. All we can do for now is leave it all in God's hands. He is a strong little boy and hope he can get thru this so we can have him back home someday soon...

Benjamin's Corner could not possibly have been the first SJ saloon. SJ has a long history of saloonsRead More from way back. I read in the SJ Mercury archives that in 1883 there were 106 saloons in the city.

Wow. So sad. After attending a few of these hearings, and listening to both the victim's side ofRead More the story as well as listening to the DA, and all of the regulations, procedures, etc...that MUST be followed to a "T", it seems to me that the justice system almost favors suspects. I don't understand why how so much thought and wrangling goes into the suspect's future and sentencing, meanwhile her victims are left in complete devastation, with their hands tied and seemingly no recourse. And then, meanwhile, Jill's husband has been in Arizona, for Spring Training and Golfing! Oh, and front row at the Sharks games as well. Yes, I know he has a job, however, these poor people his wife victimized were FRIENDS and FAMILY!! Why isn't he showing any semblance of shame, and at LEAST making some kind of effort to reimburse. Again, I'm so very sad and frustrated for the victims. I looked into their sad eyes yesterday. All I can hope for is that justice will be served in the end, and that because they are GOOD and HARDWORKING people, that eventually some great blessing will come their way.

Yet, every day I see people driving a couple of feet into the shoulder. I wish there was a greaterRead More presence of police on the expressways to look out for people doing this, but also turning without signaling, driving without lights in the dark and, worst of all, using a phone in their hands. I know people aren't maliciously going out there to cause death and injury to others, but if they could see how bad it makes their driving while distracted...

Stefan was a wonderful young man with an infectious personality that was fun for his friends to beRead More around. A loyal and true friend and someone you always wanted on your side whether it be running with the football for your team or while out on the town, when threatened by unsaviory characters, Stefan would have his friends backs covered. The boat driver apparently passed a sobriety test following the accident and was the boats “designated driver”. Results of the police department investigation into the accident are either not yet known. Questions that need to be asked and answered are: How experienced was the boat driver? Stefan was apparently at the front of the boat, leaning forward in a pose for a picture and duplicating a pose taken from the movie "Titanic". How fast was the boat going? Did the boat driver consider the possibility that if Stefan was leaning forward over a low railing in the front of the boat, that he might fall out of the boat and that Stefan might get run over by the boat and struck by the boats propeller? If not, why not? again, how experienced was the boat driver? Was their a partying atmosphere? of course there was, Lake Havasu is advertised by promoters as "The Premier West Coast College Spring Break Destination". Check out the Internet for promotions and pictures. Should businesses be renting motor boats to inexperienced drivers in such a partying atmosphere? What about the front railing on the boat? How high was it?

I hope Patch does a follow up to this article. Was the victim intoxicated? Was the boat driver? I amRead More saddened and outraged at the deaths of these youths to alcohol and partying. They need to outlaw these overboard college kids gone wild fests. Last fall a Cal Poly student and Lafayette resident drowned during the annual river float in Chico, CA, and just last weekend another Cal Ploy student and Santa Rosa resident died from falling off a cliff at the "Deltopia" celebration in Isla Vista hosted by UCSB & SBCC students. I understand the college life and partying, I was a college student myself, but we never let it go this far. Isla Vista police/Sheriff's kept it from being a "Floatopia" (boats in the water, etc) by closing the beaches because of problems in past years.
