Bay Area Retailers Help Consumers Find Less-Toxic Gardening Products:
Look for “Our Water, Our World” displays at stores
Local gardeners who have concerns about the safety of pest control in their yards and gardens can now relax. Over 170 retailers in the region are participating in a program designed to make it easier to navigate the scores of gardening products on store shelves.
The “Our Water, Our World” (OWOW) program’s distinctive “globe” logo can be found on shelves next to products that are less-toxic to families, pets, and the environment. This includes items to control many common pests, such as ants and cockroaches.

“Our Water, Our World” is sponsored by the Bay Area Stormwater Management Agencies Association and the Bay Area Pollution Prevention Group, and their affiliate agencies, including the City of Campbell.

The program began as a way to help consumers purchase gardening and pest control products that are less-polluting to the Bay Area’s waterways. Chemical pesticides can be washed off sidewalks, driveways and gardens during rain or normal watering. These toxic chemicals find their way to the Bay and local creeks through storm drains.
The less-toxic product choices are clearly marked by OWOW shelf signs. Companion “fact sheets” on how to control specific pests are available for free. So, local residents who have concerns about the safety of using chemical pesticides around their homes can simply look for these shelf signs, and know that these products are less-toxic.
