Campbell's Week Ahead: A New Junior Mayor; CHOCOLATE; Tours of Ainsley House Decorations

Monday, November 18:

Mayor for a Day
Mayor Evan Low will be announcing the teen who won the essay contest that lets him or her become mayor for a day today.

He's going to do it in style, surprising the student in school and whisking her or him off to city functions. Look for video here in Campbell Patch tomorrow.

Study Chocolate? Yum

Snake and Butterfly at 191 E. Campbell Ave, is offering classes on the dessert of kings. 

The first is Monday at 7 p.m.

Class One - Chocolate History & The Production Process 
  *This class will cover the history of chocolate as a food and a commodity.  Early production methods up to today's industrial processes will be covered.  If you've ever wondered how your chocolate got to you from the plantation to your plate, this class is for you!  Class one is Monday Nov. 18 and Monday Nov. 25)

Class Two - Caramel & Confections 
   *This class will ease your fears of handling molten hot sugar and show you how to turn it into the delectable treat that is caramel.  The basics of candying, ganache and fudge will be covered as well.  (Class Held Tuesday, November 19th & Tuesday, November 26, 2013)

Each class is $50 and is limited to a group of 10 participants maximum.  Each person will leave with a gift of $20 worth of chocolate (bars, confections or caramels).

You are welcome to sign up for one or both classes.  Those that sign up for both simultaneous classes will receive a 10% discount on the total cost.

The Ainsley House annual holiday celebration runs November 14 through December 19, 2013. Tour the festively decorated house, enjoy a holiday tea, take a photo with Santa, and shop the holiday boutique.

The Academy of Classical Ballet, California, brings a winter wonderland to the Living Room. The Winter Fairy and her Ice Sprites transport their icy and snowy home into the Ainsley House as they welcome their penguin, wolf, and elfin friends.

Campbell Kiwanis celebrates city businesses and residents in the Entry Foyer, using decorations, photographs, and memorabilia to enhance their transformation of the space.

The staff of the Campbell Library turns the Den into Santa’s Study with ornaments and decorations made from discarded books. Ainsley House visitors will also get to find out which books are among Santa’s favorites.

Oak Park Design Studio decorates the Dining Room in a beautiful and sustainable style using reclaimed, recycled, and repurposed objects.

Rocket Fizz celebrates the sweet side of the season by transforming the Butler’s Pantry with Buddy the Elf’s four food groups – candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup. They are also bringing the world of Ralphie Parker and A Christmas Story to life in the Guest Bedroom Suite.

City of Campbell employees are also volunteer decorators. Recreation Department Elves will transform the Maid’s Suite with vibrant, jewel-tone colors as they celebrate the gift of the holiday season. City Hall Elves bring snow and silver to the Sun Porch along with cozy holiday quilts

Docent led tours of the Ainsley House featuring the holiday decorations are offered noon – 4 p.m., Thursday – Sunday, November 14 – 30, and daily December 1 - 19, 2013. Tour admission is $8, seniors $6, youth age 7-17 $4.50, members are free. The holiday boutique, offering seasonal gifts, ornaments, tea accessories, and more, will be open during touring hours.

Children can meet Santa Claus and give him their wish list in the Ainsley House on November 29 and December 1, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their own cameras to photograph their children with Santa. Admission is $10 per family, $5 for members.

Holiday teas will take place Wednesday through Sunday, December 4-14, 2013, with seating at 1:00 or 1:30 p.m. Teas include finger sandwiches, champagne, tea, and tasty treats in the Carriage House followed by a docent led tour of the Ainsley House. Admission is $35, $30 for members. Reservations are required for the teas and can be made by calling 408-866-2757.

Two evening Open House events at the Ainsley House offer the public an opportunity to enjoy the holiday decorations and refreshments. The festivities take place 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15 and Thursday, December 19, 2013. Admission is $15, $10 for members, and can be purchased either on-site the evening of the program or in advance at the Ainsley House or Campbell Historical Museum.
