Fundraiser Planned for Hit-and-Run Victim

Organizers ask community to donate items for a garage sale on Sunday for Shea Shaw's mounting medical bills.

A garage sale is being planned for Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., to benefit the Shea's Hope donation fund, set up to help hit-and-run victim Shea Shaw's mother, Cari Shaw, pay for her medical and life expenses.

The 15-year-old Campbell girl, who's a sophomore at Los Gatos High School, was with her boyfriend on Jan. 8 when she was hit by an oncoming car at the intersection of Camden and Bascom Avenues in Campbell at about 1:10 a.m, according to San Jose police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez. Shea remains hospitalized and is making small progress.

The sale is being organized by Jigsaw Salon owner Kimberly Smith-Battisti, said Dominique Nunez, a receptionist at the salon. Cari Shaw is an independent contractor at Jigsaw Salon, according to the www.sheashope.org Web site.

Organizers will set up the sale at the old Coldwell Banker offices at the corner of N. Santa Cruz Avenue and Highway 9 in Los Gatos, and are asking the community to bring sellable and cleaned items to Jigsaw Salon or to the parking lot on Sunday.

Proceeds will be deposited in the SheasHope.org Fund at Wells Fargo, Nunez said. Two accounts have been established at to help Shea's family. The Shea Shaw Donation Fund helps pay for her medical bills. The Shea’s Hope Fund helps Shea and Cari Shaw with their life expenses.

Volunteers are needed for three-hour hour shifts at the garage sale on Sunday. Anyone interested in participating should contact Smith-Battisti at kim@jigsawsalon.com, or call 408-655-1935  or 408- 354-1050.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to contact San Jose Police Department at 408-409-5339.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
