BASEBALL RANKINGS: One Week of Baseball Left Until Playoffs

League titles still up for grabs in SCCAL, El Camino and Santa Teresa; Palo Alto gets crack at Wilcox in De Anza tournament finals.

Patch unveiled its Silicon Valley high school baseball rankings last month. The top-15 weekly rankings are drawn from all schools that fall under the Silicon Valley Patch cluster

The Silicon Valley sports cluster includes 12 different cities: Milpitas, Campbell, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Los Altos, Mountain View, Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, Capitola-Soquel, Watsonville and Gilroy.

The schools that are eligible to be ranked are: Milpitas, Del Mar, Westmont, Leigh, Branham, Prospect, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, Gunn, Cupertino, Monta Vista, Homestead, Lynbrook, Los Altos, Pinewood, Mountain View, St. Francis-Mountain View, Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, Harbor, Pacific Collegiate, Soquel, Aptos, Watsonville, St. Francis-Watsonville, Pajaro Valley, Monte Vista Christian, Gilroy and Christopher High.

Records are based on reported games played through Sunday, May 8.

1. St. Francis 22-5, 12-2 WCAL (Last week: 1) – Lancers eight-game WCAL winning streak halted by rival Archbishop Mitty. Two foes may well meet again this week in WCAL tournament finals.

2. Palo Alto 22-8, 13-4 De Anza (2) – Vikings win rubber match of three-game series against Los Altos 13-0 to march on to SCVAL tourney finals this week.

3. Los Altos 17-11, 11-6 De Anza (3) – Double digit defeat to rival Paly leaves sour taste in the mouths of the Eagles. Los Altos and Homestead will duke it out for third place in the SCVAL tournament this week starting today at Homestead High.

4. Homestead 17-11-1, 10-4 De Anza (4) – First place Wilcox too much for Homestead. The SCVAL De Anza division leading Chargers outscore the Mustangs 16-2 in two games last week.

5. Los Gatos 18-9-2, 7-7 De Anza (5) – ‘Cats snag both games against overmatched Cupertino team in first round SCVAL De Anza tournament play. Los Gatos squares off with Saratoga High this week, looking to keep the good vibes going into next week’s CCS playoffs.

6.  Leigh 17-6-1, 16-2 Santa Teresa (6) – Longhorns keep winning to put themselves in driver’s seat for Mt. Hamilton League Santa Teresa Division title. Senior Day tussle with feisty Del Mar team starts at 4 pm today at Leigh.

7.  Aptos 16-9, 9-2 SCCAL (8) – Mariners rise to the occasion last week with wins over Harbor and Soquel to move into first place in SCCAL. Final league game falls against San Lorenzo Valley on Friday.

8. Soquel 15-7-1, 8-2 SCCAL (7) – After 3-1 loss to Aptos on Friday, Knights need to win out and hope for an Aptos loss to win outright league title. First leg comes today against Santa Cruz High.

9. Milpitas 15-7-1, 9-4 El Camino (9) – Playoff-bound Trojans will need jump two teams in order to earn share of league title. Milpitas plays at Lynbrook today and wraps up regular season on Friday against Gunn.

10. Del Mar 16-7-1, 12-5-1 Santa Teresa (11) – Dons continue to play solid ball. Perform in spoiler role quite nicely during a 5-2 win over first place Oak Grove last week.

11.  Monta Vista 14-10, 10-3 El Camino (12) – Narrow 2-1 win over Santa Clara vaults Matadors into SCVAL El Camino Division first place tie with Bruins. Two wins against Gunn and Fremont this week could result in first place finish for the purple and yellow bunch from Cupertino.

12. Westmont 12-13, 9-10 Mt. Hamilton (10) – Warriors slip under .500 in league after rough back-to-back with strong league foes Sobrato and Pioneer.

13. Gilroy 14-11, 9-7 TCAL (14) – Up-and-down Mustangs have two more TCAL contests before the CCS playoff brackets are unveiled Sunday night.

14. Harbor 12-11, 5-5 SCCAL (13)- Three straight SCCAL losses has sunk the Pirates spoiler ship. Harbor finishes up with Scotts Valley and rival Santa Cruz this week.

15. Monte Vista Christian 14-10, 12-3 MBL (15)- Mustangs lose tight one to undefeated league leader Monterey High, 3-2. MVC can’t catch first place Monterey, but still has plenty of baseball ahead with three league tilts on docket this week.
