They Said Yes to the Prom Dress

High school girls from around the South Bay flocked to Campbell's Gabrielle's Bridal Atelier, and some left with free prom dresses.

The line outside as Gabrielle Medrano's employees drove up to the downtown Campbell business startled the women, not knowing what to expect from their earlier of deeply discounted and free (with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher) prom dresses to local high schools.

The store sold 22 dresses and gave 16 for free on April 1. The highest GPA? A 4.2 with four years of transcripts to prove it!

, Pioneer, Santa Teresa, Independence and Milpitas high schools all had groups of senior girls stop by the shop on Friday in the hopes of finding their "perfect dress."

Both Del Mar and Milpitas had announced the event over the loudspeakers at their schools, so many students were from those two schools.

"Purple must definitely be the 'It' color this year, because a lot of girls came in looking for purple dresses," Medrano said.

"Life saver!" said Del Mar High School senior Astrid Caballero of the event. She walked away with a yellow stunner.

"I fit there," said Marili Iturbe, another Del Mar senior about the good-grades offer. She walked away with a free dress.
