Dance Salsa for Citizen Schools Campbell Saturday Night

Put on your dancing shoes because Off the Hook Campbell is having a Salsa night, benefiting Citizen Schools Campbell.

The event takes place Saturday, May 4 from 6-9:00 p.m. at Off the Hook in the Campbell Plaza.

Citizen Schools Campbell is an after school program aimed at students from low-income families that allows them a chance to learn from professionals in the field, similar to an apprenticeship, as well as receive additional academic help. 

The fundraiser Saturday night aims at helping the school's annual WOW showcase, the culmination of what students have learned during their 10-week course at a community ceremony dinner, scheduled for May 23.

"It's bittersweet," says Laura Radilla, teaching associate and the community family student engagement liaison for Citizen Schools Campbell.

After seven years at the Campbell Middle School campus, Citizen Schools is relocating the program to the East Alum Rock School District.

"We want to thank the community for having us and allowing us to be a part of Campbell for so long," Radilla says. "Campbell has been our home for the last seven years."

The school is having its last fundraiser of the school year at Off the Hook, Radilla says, because the owner has been enthusiastically supportive.

"They’re really great at supporting the local community," she says.

The event will include Salsa lessons, Salsa dancing, food and live music by Cafecito. A $10 donation is requested.
