Campbell Library Closing Tuesday for Technology Upgrade

All Santa Clara County Libraries, including the online catalog, are part of one-day shutdown.

The will be closed on Tuesday for a major upgrade of the Santa Clara County Library District computer system, officials announced last week.

All programs and services—including access to the district's online catalog—will be suspended at the district's eight locations.

Technicians are scheduled to install Horizon software, a major upgrade to enhance the district's integrated library system and public access computer system.

Because the upgrade involves hardware and complex coordination between the vendor and the district in two different states, the district could not avoid taking the system down temporarily. The new system will allow the library district to perform future maintenance remotely, said county Library Director Melinda Cervantes.

The August date was chosen for the closure, because it tends to be one of the less busy times of year and will, therefore, have the least impact on patrons.
