The Times, They Are A-Changin'

I'm pregnant. Now what?

Eight days ago I took a pregnancy test—then another, then ANOTHER. All three came out positive.

I'm going to be someone's mom. Me, the girl with the blue streak in her hair and the nose piercing and all the colorful tattoos. My boyfriend, the video-game obsessed, soda addicted, kindest and most gentle man in the world, is going to be a father. Needless to say, we have been thrown for a loop! In one week, we went from vacation plans and partying with friends to marriage plans and baby books. In a heartbeat, all the things I've been lusting after (expensive yarn and makeup) went out the window. Now everything revolves around the tiny life inside of me.

Adjusting to this new normal is going to take time. It's hard to go from being completely carefree to checking Google frantically to find out if I can still take Aspirin (no) or Zantac (yes) for the backaches and insane heartburn and indigestion I'm feeling. It's harder still for my boyfriend. Since he's not the one sleeping all the time and going to the restroom every two hours, it's harder for him to really visualize parenthood just yet.

The next year of our lives is going to be amazing. Our niece or nephew is due in December, our baby is due in January, and then our lease is up in February. OF COURSE, the boy thinks that we should move, despite the fact that our child will be only 5-6 weeks old!

I am excited to see what happens to our little family in the days and years down the road. I can't wait to meet our little one and teach her (or him) all about the world. It's a huge responsibility, and it was certainly unexpected (though not unwanted), but I think that we will be great parents—and I'm keeping the blue hair.
