Music (and Other Things) in the Park

Spotting daddy doppelgangers.

Mr. Richards and I met some friends to enjoy some music in the park downtown Thursday evening. It was our first one this summer but we've been enjoying the Summer Concert series for years, since back when our kids were in elementary school. It was a great opportunity to get outside, listen to some music and let the kids run around with their friends for a while.

Now, it's a great opportunity to get outside, listen to some music, hang out with our friends and drink some wine. Also knit and people watch.

We start with a picnic dinner, chatting with our friends, sharing wine and stories until the music starts. Once the music starts, I can no longer hear the conversation so I take out my knitting and watch the people.

And then I'm struck by how many gentlemen of a certain age look just like my dad. And while there are plenty of gentlemen of that age who don't look like my dad, there are an astonishing number of guys that do look like my dad.

And this is not the first time I've noticed this. Whenever we go downtown for the farmers' market or some festival, I'm constantly doing double takes and telling Mr. Richards, "Look at that guy. He looks just like my dad."

Just to be clear, what looks like my dad is close cropped salt and pepper (mostly salt) hair and a salt and pepper (mostly salt) mustache, a baseball cap and sunglasses, and very casual clothing that could be jeans and a t-shirt or shorts and a short sleeved collared shirt with flip-flops.

There's also the guys that look like my uncle Mike, which is basically my dad with a goatee.

I see these guys everywhere. Which makes me wonder, is this the agreed upon uniform for old guys? Well it must be since there is a whole clothing line named after them

Anyway, my dad rocks and it amuses me no end that so many guys look like him. I just wish I lived closer to him so I could see the real thing more often.
