What You Need to Know About Tonight's Planning Commission Meeting

An indoor auto retail business could be coming to 371 E. McGlincy Lane if the commission approves a conditional use permit during its 7:30 p.m. meeting.

The Campbell Planning Commission is only considering one item during its meeting tonight, but it's a doozy.

The commission will consider approving a conditional use permit to allow an indoor car dealership to move into 371 E. McGlincy Lane. The property, owned by Bertrio Properties, is a 2,430 square-foot vacant industrial tenant space. It includes a 450 square-foot storage loft.

Steve Prosser, an associate city planner, said the dealership will sell restored vintage and anitque vehicles displayed inside the building.

According to the meeting's agenda packet, the project qualifies as Categorically Exempt under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pertaining to minor altercations to an existing private structure.

Among the regulations applied to the business, it will be limited to appointment-only hours from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Its operational hours are restricted to 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sunday through Saturday.

Staff recommends approval of the permit, according to the packet, for a number of reasons, including:

  • It will aid in the harmonious development of the immediate area.
  • The project is consistent with the city's general plan.
  • The proposed use of the project is allowed within the applicable zoning district with conditional use permit approval. It complies with other applicable provisions of the zoning and municipal codes.
  • The project's proposed use will not create a nuisance due to litter, noise, traffic, vandalism or other factors.
  • The site is adequately served by streets of sufficient capacity to carry the kind and quantity of traffic the use would be expected to generate.

Any action taken by the commission is final unless a written appeal is sent to the city clerk within 10 calendar days of the decision date.

Before the commission takes on the permit, members of the public are encouraged to participate in the meeting's oral requests, where they'll have up to five minutes to air out any issue pertaining to the commission.

The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 70 North First Street in Campbell.
