Two Days Left in Mayor's Water Conservation Challenge

Campbell Mayor Evan Low encourages residents to take the pledge to conserve water in the Orchard City.

Campbell is currently ranked at No. 3 and there's still time to pledge.

In honor of Earth Day 2013, the city of Campbell is taking part in the 2013 Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, which runs through April 30. The contest is a non-profit, national community service competition developed by the Wyland Foundation.

According to the website, mayors of cities throughout the United States engage in a friendly competition to see which leader can best inspire their residents through easy-to-use online pledges to reduce water and energy usage.

"In recognition of Earth Day, I wanted to find a way that Campbell could participate and do our own part," says Campbell Mayor Evan Low.

The contest asks residents to go to this site, click through the informational slides to learn more about water conservation and pledge to participate in the name of Campbell.

"It will not only help individuals and families save on costs, but there is also a benefit to our environment and community," Low says.

Not to mention the chance to win various prizes including a Toyota Prius.

Low has already signed the pledge, saying he is doing his part by drinking out of a refillable container, timing his showers, and washing only full loads of laundry and dishes.

"We are reminded year after year about our limited natural resources and about the importance of conservation," he says. "There is an inherent cost to clean water and energy and it is important for us all to each do our own part."

As of Monday, April 29, Campbell was rated Number 3 out of 10 in the category for cities with a total population of 30,000-99,999. But there's still two days left.

"Nothing less than #1!" Low says.
