New Restaurant Requesting Late Night Hours, New Fitness Studio Proposed with Less Parking

The Campbell Planning Commission meeting tonight, 7:30 p.m. will be hearing requests from two new businesses in Campbell.

The Campbell Planning Commission is meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers to hear proposals for a new fitness studio as well as a new restaurant and bar asking for late-night hours and general alcohol sales.

The later is a new restaurant and bar that will be moving in to the former Odd Fellows building at 280 E Campbell Ave. According to the planning documents, the new business is described as a Gastropub and will have "Steam Punk" motif throughout.

The floor plan for the new restaurant includes multiple dining rooms, a lounge area, a primary bar and outdoor patio, with a total of 157 indoor seats and 22 outdoor. The restaurant will tentatively be open 11:00 a.m to 1:00 a.m. daily with patio hours from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Campbell Police expressed concern over the 1:00 a.m. closure, citing that during 2011-12, the highest amount of calls for service came between 1:00 and 1:59 a.m.

The commission is strongly advising a closing time of 12:00 a.m.

Proposed Fitness Studio

The applicant, Gregg Sunday is seeking a fiv-year term limited Conditional Use Permit with a parking modification permit for a new fitness studio within an existing commercial space. The area the studio will occupy is 4,860 square feet, and the proposed hours of operation are from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. It will function as a one-on-one personal training facility and the anticipated capacity on a daily basis is 40.

The commercial space has a mobile home park to the north and industrial to the south, west and east. The new business will have 26 parking spots per 330 square feet. It is required to have 19 per 250 quare feet. To accommodate for this, Sunday has agreed to have no more than 12 people in the facility at any given time.

Other businesses within the commercial complex include The Alarm Company and Hurricane Art Studio.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
