Help USPS 'Stamp Out Hunger'

Place non-perishable food items in a bag by your mailbox.

Stamp Out Hunger, the largest one-day food drive in the nation hosted by National Association of Letter Carriers, is today -- Saturday, May 10.

Now in its 22nd year, the Food Drive effort is the nation's largest single-day drive. In 2013, 74.4 million pounds of food was collected, which brought the grand total of donations to just under 1.3 billion pounds of food collected over the history of the drive.

Postal customers can place a bag of nonperishable food by their mailbox before their letter carrier comes, and the mail carriers will pick it up and deliver it to a nearby food-distribution charity within that same community.

Postal carriers will also collect on Monday.

"If your donation is not picked up, contact your local post office or simply place your donation by your mailbox on Monday instead. (We’ll be picking up missed donations on Monday, too.)," reports the postal carriers' web site.

I received this Sunday morning. So glad they'll be picking up on Monday too. Please send earlier next time. Thank you,

I agree, and my apologies. I did not get the notice until Saturday a.m. But since it said they are picking up Monday, as well, I left it up overnight. Wish I knew sooner, too, so I could alert more folks.
