Expect Heavy Concert Traffic on Local Highways Sunday

Big crowds expected for an American Idol taping at HP Pavilion and for Big Time Rush, Cody Simpson and Rachel Crow who perform at Shoreline Amphitheatre.

If you plan to leave, visit or drive through San Jose or Mountain View Sunday evening, beware of heavy traffic.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission warns drivers that due to American Idol taping at HP Pavilion in San Jose on Sunday, July 22, there could be congestion on I-280 and CA-87. Taping begins at 6 p.m. and show starts at 7 p.m.

But that won't be the only problematic stretch of freeway.

A concert at that same evening will also cause heavy traffic on US-101 and CA-85, as well as local streets and roadways adjacent to the venue before and after the show.

Gates for the "Big Time Summer Tour" open at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:00 p.m. There will be performances by Big Time Rush, Cody Simpson and Rachel Crow.

Since concerts usually end before 11 p.m., drivers should expect traffic again around that time.
