Santa Clara County prosecutors have charged county Supervisor George Shirakawa with four felony counts of perjury and other charges in connection with his alleged misuse of public and campaign funds, according to court documents.
Prosecutors on Thursday filed five felony and seven misdemeanor charges against Shirakawa, who represents part of San Jose in District 2 on the Board of Supervisors.
Along with the four counts of perjury, Shirakawa was also charged with felony misuse of public funds. The seven misdemeanors are connected to alleged campaign finance violations, according to documents filed with the
court clerk's office.
Shirakawa was recently ordered by the county to repay money that he allegedly wrongly charged on his government credit card.
The supervisor was not immediately available today to comment on the charges.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen is planning a 2 p.m. news conference today to discuss the case.
