Candidate Forum: Jim Beall and Joe Coto

The League of Women Voters is hosting a candidate forum tonight, 6:00 p.m. at the Campbell Community Center.

The League of Women Voters of the Southwest Santa Clara Valley is hosting a forum tonight at the Campbell Community Center.

The forum will offer a chance to hear from State Senate District 15 candidates Jim Beall Jr. and Joe Coto in the Roosevelt Room at 6:00 p.m. Sept. 17.

State Senate District 15 includes the cities of Campbell, Los Gatos, Cupertino, Saratoga and parts of San Jose.

Coto, the longtime superintendent of San Jose's East Side Union High School District told Campbell Patch earlier this year that for the communities included in the newly drawn Senate District 15, education is a high priority and with his experience and skill set, he's a good match to the position.

Education is also one of the issues Beall is campaigning on.

"It’s a battle. You can’t just talk about education. These costs have to be controlled," he said to Campbell Patch earlier this year. "I’m a strategist. I look at a strategy for education, strategy for creating jobs and how to handle public safety and keep our prison cost down.

"Everything that goes into the prisons is taken away from the education," he says. "So unless we solve our public safety, we will lose in terms of higher education. It's like robbing our children of our future."

The form takes place at the Campbell Community Center, the Roosevelt Room, tonight, Sept. 17 at 6:00 p.m.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
