Campbell Library Will Open its Doors on Mondays

Beginning April 30, the Campbell Library will be open six days a week.

For the first time since 2004, Campbell Library will open its doors on Mondays.

Starting April 30, Campbell Library will be open six days a week, Community Librarian Cheryl Houts told Campbell City Council last night.

The new hours will tack on an additional four hours to the week, Houts said, which will be made possible by “flattening the week out.” Pushing back the opening time on Tuesdays did this.

“Tuesday is a straight shift so we don’t have to have additional staff,” Houts said.

The 24,000 square foot building is home to more than 200,000 items in its collection and received a final coat of paint to its interior this weekend, Houts said.

New paint, carpet and furniture as well as a new computer system due possibly within the next month are all tools added to the library's coffers to better service its patrons. Previous renovations to the library were done in 1989 and included the library's lower level.

Along with the renovations, patrons will also get to enjoy a brand new automated book return, accessible from the building's exterior after hours.

All of this good news does not change one looming challenge for the library: the need for a new building.

"Campbell is still in need of a new building," Houts said. "That is my cry that I will never let it die. We haven’t solved the problems that we have in that building."
