Evan Low: 'I Have Renewed Faith in our Democracy Today.'

Campbell Vice Mayor weighs in on today's same sex marriage ruling.

A Federal Appeals Court ruled Feb. 7 that the California voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, citing the Equal Rights Ammendment.

The decision comes after the proposition was passed nearly four years ago in November.

This is the second time that a ban on same-sex marriage in the state was enacted, then struck down in court.

In a statement, Campbell Vice Mayor Evan Low comments on the decision.

"I have renewed faith in our democracy today after the U.S. appeals court ruled that the same sex marriage ban in California is unconstitutional," Low said. "Our state is what it is today because of its rich diversity and because of contributions of all people.

"The justices took an oath to defend the constitution of the United States and the State of California and I am pleased by their ruling. We all adhere to our constitution and uniformly abide by its laws. This ruling reaffirms that everyone should have the same dignity and respect that is afforded by our constitution."

A 23-year-old Low was , making headlines as one of the nation's youngest gay Asian American councilmen, and in 2009 as one of the youngest mayors when he succeed Mayor Jane Kennedy.
