Troopers: Teen Faces Charges After Throwing Hot Chocolate on Driver

State Police provided the following information. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Patterson teenager is facing harassment and reckless endangerment charges after she threw a hot beverage on her mother—who was behind the wheel of a vehicle that was carrying a young child in the back seat—police say.

State troopers from the Southeast Barracks arrested the 17-year-old after her mother filed a complaint with the agency.

She and the girl, along with two relatives, a teenager and a toddler, were traveling on Mount Ebo Road in Southeast when an argument erupted, according to officials.

The teen is alleged to have taken a cup of recently-purchased hot chocolate and thrown it on the mother, who was operating the vehicle. She was not injured.

After conducting an investigation, police arrested the teen Dec. 1, on the following charges: two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors; second-degree harassment, a violation; and second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.

Authorities released the defendant to her mother, pending a future court appearance in Southeast Justice Court.

I don't understand - the mother was operating a vehicle while carrying a child? This doesn't make any sense. If so, the mother should have been arrested too! I hope this is a mistake or a typo.

Hi Susan! Thanks for writing. The mother was operating the vehicle. In addition to the mother and the 17-year-old, there was another teen and a toddler in the car.

I would have left the daughter in jail at least overnight..things are getting so out of control...maybe overnight on a hard bed in a concrete cold cell could teach some respect...

KIDS HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THEIR PARENTS, TEACHERS, AUTHORITIES, ETC.. BUT THAT'S WHAT THEY TEACH KIDS IN SCHOOL TODAY!!! IF YOUR PARENTS YELL AT YOU, OR HIT YOU, OR ARE TO HARD ON YOU, BLA, BLA, BLA, ARE YOU $@*?!%# JOKING!!! GROWING UP IF THE "TEACHER, NUN, BROTHER, EVEN THE PRIEST, YELLED, DISCIPLINED, EVEN HIT ME!!! THE TEACHERS WERE ALWAYS RIGHT, THE NUNS, BROTHERS, COPS, AND EVERY ADULT WERE RIGHT. IT WAS THE RESPONSIBLITY OF EVERY ADULT TO TEACH A CHILD RESPECT AND RIGHT FROM WRONG!! AT 17, IF I THREW HOT ANYTHING AT MY MOM, I WOULD BE IN A WHEELCHAIR TODAY!!! IT'S OUT OF CONTROL!!!! I'M GLAD MY PARENTS RAISED ME WITH AN IRON FIST!! I HAVE RESPECT, FOR THE MOST PART, FOR EVERYONE. YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE!! SHOULD HAVE LEFT HER IN THE JOINT AND THINK ABOUT WHAT SHE DID!!!
