Stolen St. Bernadette Statue Returned to St. Mary’s

The St. Bernadette statue that was stolen from St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday was located due to a tip and returned to the church without any damage.

The stolen St. Bernadette statue taken from was located and returned to the church, according to a Campbell Police Department press release.

The statue was unbolted and stolen from the church during the night on Friday, July 27.

At 11:52 a.m. on August 2, the received a tip stating that the missing statue had possibly been located near Hamilton Avenue and Third Street.

When officers arrived at the parking lot behind 256 E. Hamilton Avenue, they found the statue and confirmed that it was the missing statue. The statue was found wrapped in a mattress pad cover, said Sergeant Gary Berg.

Berg said that there was no vandalism to the statue. The statue has been returned to St. Mary’s Church.

“I know that the church was looking into security cameras and I know that they haven’t put it back out there yet,” said Berg.

“The Campbell Police Department would like to thank not only the community, but also the media for assisting us in getting the information regarding the theft out to the public,” stated the press release. “Had it not been for the support, the statue may have never been returned.”
