Sketch of Homeless Woman Killed in San Jose Released

Police want to learn the full name of a homeless woman who was murdered in San Jose in August.

A sketch was released Tuesday of the homeless woman in August as authorities seek her true identity.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office asks the public for help with the identification of this Jane Doe homicide victim, who was known in the Midtown area as Gail, and was believed to be 60 at the time of her death.

She spoke with a New York accent and officials think she may have been born there, but was known to be homeless and for years lived in the area where she was stabbed to death on Aug. 13 in front of the Walgreen store at 1399 W. San Carlos St. in San Jose.

"She never accepted anything from anyone," he said. "She just kept to herself."

Police and officials at Valley Medical Center say Gail gave them the last name Hayden, but the coroner’s office has not been able to confirm that. She did not have a driver’s license, identification or record with the police.

If anyone knows Gail’s last name or has any information that can lead to her identification please contact the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office at 408-793-1900.
