Santa Clara County DA Wins Big in Diet Scam Lawsuit

Sensa must pay $900,000 for its false claims about the Sprinkle Diet.

Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, along with several other district attorneys across California, are celebrating a big victory on Monday after Sensa, a diet company, settled a lawsuit for $900,000.

The group of DAs filed against Sensa for false claims it was making about its "Sprinkle Diet," which consists of peppering flavored crystals known as "Tastants" over food with the promise of weight loss.

According to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, a study showing the Sprinkle Diet's efficacy was found to fall short of scientific standards, leading the group of district attorneys to claim false advertising.

“This company’s spurious claims preyed upon a nation struggling with serious weight-related health issues, including obesity and diabetes,’’ Deputy District Attorney Yen Dang said. “People seeking to lose weight should eat healthy and balanced meals, exercise regularly and see a doctor for advice about weight loss. Beware of companies touting miracle diets.”
