San Jose Police Arrest Man Connected to Campbell Armed Robbery Attempt

The San Jose Police Department arrested four suspects Oct. 28 connected to possibly 17 robberies in San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and Campbell.

Four suspects were arrested on Saturday, Oct. 28 by the San Jose Police Department in a routine traffic stop. One of the suspects is connected to an attempted armed robbery of a Jack in the Box in Campbell.

The suspects currently in custody are Jacob Benitez, 19, Erick Ellerbrock, 19 and Jessica Kobus, 25, all of San Jose. Luis Esqueda, 19 of Sunnyvale is also in custody.

According to Campbell Police Department Capt. Dave Carmichael, the suspect walked up to the drive-through window at the Jack in the Box on 1737 So. Bascom Ave. Oct. 19 around 11:03 p.m.

"Employees saw him approaching with a gun and fled to the back of the store," Carmichael said.

The man reached into the window with his gun but because the employees had fled that area of the store, he was not successful and fled on foot.

"Everything was very quick," Carmichael said. "Our investigators heard that the San Jose Police Department had made an arrest and had determined that one of the suspects in custody was responsible for our incident."

As brazen as a armed robbery on foot may sound, Carmichael says that this has happened in the past, but never without a vehicle parked nearby.

"The employees in this incident saw him flee on foot but did not see whether or not he had a car parked nearby," he said. "He could have had a vehicle waiting or an accomplice close by."
