New Campbell Police Chief Named As Finch Retires

News from the City of Campbell ...

After dutifully serving Campbell’s Police Department for 28 years, Police Chief Greg Finch has recently announced his intentions to retire this year. 

Campbell City Manager Mark Linder has announced his plan to appoint Police Captain David Carmichael to lead the Department as Police Chief in October later this year.

“I met with Captain Carmichael and feel extremely fortunate to know that the Department will continue to achieve the high standards to which we are accustomed, and that the citizens, staff, and police department employees, will be well served by his fine leadership,” stated City Manager Mark Linder. 

Captain Carmichael grew up in San Jose and attended San Jose State University, the University of Hawaii, and Union Institute and University.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Management, and is a 2010 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. 

He began his law enforcement career with the Honolulu Police Department in 1994. On July 1, 1996, he started his career with the Campbell Police Department. 

Captain Carmichael was promoted to the rank of Agent in 2001 and then to Sergeant in 2004. He held assignments in Patrol, Investigations, and Administration. In March 2009, he was promoted to Captain and has managed both the Investigations Division and the Field Services Division. 

Captain Carmichael will begin his post as the Interim Police Chief effective this August and is expected to be officially appointed as Chief in October.
