The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed by Caltrain in Santa Clara Monday evening as Philip Scholz, 35, of Pleasanton.

The Coroner’s Office told Patch that a determination has not been made as to whether the death was accidental or a suicide.

A second person was hit along with Scholz. That person survived and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Information about that person’s identity and condition are not available.

The two victims were hit by the train at 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara train station.

Ridership was light Monday evening because of the MLK holiday, but delays were still being reported at 8 p.m.
