Loud Explosions Reported in Campbell

Campbell Police say the explosions were actually illegal fireworks.

Campbell Police received three calls regarding loud “bangs” or “explosions” in the Hazelwood area of Campbell.

“When officers arrived, they found remnants of fireworks on Hazelwood,” said Campbell Police Capt. Charley Adams. “Contact was made with residents but they denied it so no citations nor arrests were made because we could not identify who was responsible.”

Several residents on the Campbell Patch Facebook Page commented that they had also heard the loud noises.

"We are going into a period when we get more and more calls like this," Adams said. "There are so many illegal fireworks out there."

There are several reasons besides the fact that they're illegal that should dissuade individuals from partaking, Adams said.

"It is a misdemeanor," he said. "There’s gun powder inside the firework. It can cause serious injuries. They can blow fingers off. That’s the risk and why it is illegal to have on a personal level.

If caught, there’s a citation involved, he said.

If the incident is on a lighter side, the citation will cost the individual a few hundred dollars and goes up depending on severity, he said. If there’s serious injury, it can end up in assault.

Fireworks are also fire hazards.

"With something like bottle rockets, you don’t choose where they land," Adams said. "If they land on someone’s roof and cause a fire, you’re responsible for the damage."
