A 14-year-old girl on a bicycle died after she was struck by a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail train in San Jose Friday morning, according to the Santa Clara County sheriff's office.

Danika Tyler Garcia was struck around 7:30 a.m. at Stokes Street near Southwest Expressway, according to the sheriff's office.

She was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to those injuries, sheriff's officials said.

The incident is under investigation, according to the sheriff's office.

VTA officials said there were about 40 passengers on the train that hit the girl.

Those passengers were transferred to a bus because train service was disrupted.
