Fatal Pedestrian Hit and Run on San Tomas Expressway

Campbell Police and California Highway Patrol officers found the body of a 23-year-old man Dec. 22.

Campbell Police Officers along with California Highway Patrol received a call that a body was lying on the shoulder of San Tomas Expressway Saturday.

The male was identified as a 23-year-old resident of San Jose, said Campbell Police Capt. Dave Carmichael.

Campbell Police were first on the scene Dec. 22 at 2:42 a.m. and pronounced the man deceased at the scene, he said.

"It was determined that he had been struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene," Carmichael said.

Because the expressway is under the CHP's jurisdiction, they are handling the investigation, he said.

"Campbell Police officers assisted with scene photographs and traffic control," Carmichael said. "Northbound San Tomas Expressway was closed closed from Budd to Campbell avenue for several hours."

Gang bangers shouldn't be tagging in Campbell. 2:42 AM is not a time when people should be out "walking". Drunk driver kills tagger. Geeeezzzzz
cejay December 26, 2012 at 04:09 PM
He was not the tagger!! Don't be so quick to judge.
sjtala December 26, 2012 at 06:03 PM
He was not a Gang banger or a tagger!! Why would you comment on someone you know nothing about. He was one of my daughters good friends and was a very kind young man. He was walking home instead of driving (being responsible) after having drinks in a bar with friends. You are an idiot!!! Don't you have anything better to do on Christmas than write stupid comments on things you know nothing about! Get a life!

Sad. I get the posting of pics of memorial items but pics of graffiti. Patch should remove these. It is irrelevant and confusing and disrespectful.
Mayra Flores de Marcotte December 27, 2012 at 02:15 AM
Alan, You're right. This is sad. We posted the photos because it is part of the memorial left for this young man. If residents drove or walked past this intersection (San Tomas Expressway and Budd Avenue) they would see the flowers, balloons, candles and graffiti on both sides of the intersection. We hoped that by including these photos, residents and readers would have context to their sudden appearance. As one of our readers on Facebook wrote, "It may not be the right way to mourn someone, but have a little heart. I'm sure the city will be taking care of it soon as the holidays are over."

It is very sad that anyone was killed, no matter who. I hope that people can realize that before being so quick to judge. Not everyone who walks late at night is a bad person, and as it seems, this young man was actually doing the responsible thing by walking. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones who must miss him terribly. What a terrible thing to happen at all, but especially on Christmas Eve. On the other hand, while it really is a shame what happened to him, I don't think that defacing public property with spray paint is an appropriate memorial. We all grieve in our own ways, but it's just not fair to do something like this that will cost the city money and time to repair. I did notice the flowers and graffiti today and was wondering what had happened, so thank you Campbell Patch for keeping us all informed as usual.

Jackson was being a responsible citizen by not driving after having drinks in Campbell with some friends. Unfortunately his very young life was ended by someone driving a car. How could this person be so uncaring so as not to stop? I can only hope that this person who hit Jackson comes to some sense of compassion for Jackson's family and respect for Jackson as a fellow human being, and comes forward to admit his/her guilt. Jackson was a friend of my Son. A cloud of sadness has entered our home and our community. Our prayers are with you Jackson. Gail Miller

It's probably not a good idea to drink and walk. Very dangerous. Your senses are impared. I'm not saying he is bad just stating facts. I am so very sorry for his family and friends. My prayers are with them.

Very nice memorial with flowers and candles. But the graffiti is just disrespectful to all.

How about you go and take some courtesy classes, that was someone's son, that was someone's friend and that was a great person, I know that person who passed and he was a better person than you will ever be. He wasn't a gangbanger he was a good friend who didn't deserve that. I kinda hope you have some tragedy, for saying and assuming you shit you deserve that happening to you.

Jacksen madsen was my friend. And no he was the furthest from a "gang banger" Imagine if you had a son "Sky". And he was Taken from you too early in a very unfair way and the person who was cold blooded enough to just leave him there, and you go on these news sites and there's a Heartless comment judging and being completely disrespectful and heartless making false Statments.. How DARE you. I feel sorry for you, truly . You have nothing better to do than make negative Comments on Christmas about an amazing young mans life whom you didnt even know!!! The ones that were tagging were friends Of Jacksen.. But does that mean they're bad people?! NO, what the hell is so bad about some writing in spray paint? To honor and show love for a friend whom they are mourning? Obviously it's to open peoples eyes and raise awareness so who ever took his life will be found and will be punished. It makes me sick to know that there are human beings like you. jacksen was an amazing, unique and loving.. Very very loving person. I love you jacksen and i could hear what you would have to say to this person myself.. So since you're not here, I'm standing up for my dear friend. Truly hurt my heart to think someone would be so insensitive . His family is devastated... I have no words left. Rest in beautiful paradise jacksen.
