Campbell Police Officers along with California Highway Patrol received a call that a body was lying on the shoulder of San Tomas Expressway Saturday.
The male was identified as a 23-year-old resident of San Jose, said Campbell Police Capt. Dave Carmichael.
Campbell Police were first on the scene Dec. 22 at 2:42 a.m. and pronounced the man deceased at the scene, he said.
"It was determined that he had been struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene," Carmichael said.
Because the expressway is under the CHP's jurisdiction, they are handling the investigation, he said.
"Campbell Police officers assisted with scene photographs and traffic control," Carmichael said. "Northbound San Tomas Expressway was closed closed from Budd to Campbell avenue for several hours."
