Egg Rolls To Blame for Small Fire

A cooking fire was put out by Santa Clara Fire Department in Campbell.

A cooking fire at the two-story residential eight-plex building at 1020 W. Hamilton Ave. was quickly taken care of by Santa Clara Fire Department's Rescue 17 unit.

The call was made at 3:31 p.m. on Monday. A lot of units responded, but most were canceled en route, said a Santa Clara Fire Department spokeswoman.

The fire burned through the cabinetry and left the walls downstairs smoke-stained. A youth was home but unharmed.

"They were trying to cook egg rolls," she said.

The fire was cleared at 4:02 p.m., and the department reported $1,000 in property loss, and $150 in contents lost.
