Driver In Friday A.M.'s Fatal Crash On Hwy 101 Arrested For Suspected DUI

The California Highway Patrol has arrested a man on suspicion of DUI following a crash this morning on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Sunnyvale that left one dead and four others, including the driver, injured.

The driver, Edwardo Jaime Jr., 34, of San Jose, was arrested this morning, according to the CHP. He was also injured in the crash.

Investigators said Jaime was driving a 1996 Honda on northbound Highway 101 near Lawrence Expressway just before 2 a.m. when he drove off the roadway as he exited the off-ramp.

Investigators said the vehicle landed on its side on a dirt embankment.

One of the passengers, a 30-year-old woman from San Jose, died at the scene. Three other passengers, identified as Roxane Jamie, 23; Jamie Garcia, 44; and Jeff Hushaw, 25, all of San Jose, were transported to hospitals for various injuries ranging from minor to serious, including cuts and a broken arm.

According to the CHP, the passengers and driver were not wearing their seatbelts.

A Sig-alert was issued at 3:01 a.m. and the northbound Highway 101 off- ramp to Lawrence Expressway was closed until about 6:40 a.m., according to the CHP.
