Updated: Campbell Woman Arrested After Fatal Car Accident in San Jose

Police said the motorist was suspected of driving under the influence when her car struck and killed a pedestrian, identified as Cassandra Rose Buck of Los Angeles.

A 27-year-old Campbell woman was arrested Monday, Oct. 28 on suspicion of driving under the influence when her car hit and killed a pedestrian in a residential San Jose neigborhood. 

Officers responded to a report of a traffic collision in the 1200 block of Weibel Way at about 2:30 a.m., San Jose Police Officer Albert Morales said. 

When officers arrived, they determined that a car hit a pedestrian and a garage door at a nearby home, Morales said. The female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene just before 3 a.m. Morales said. The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office identified her as Cassandra Rose Buck of Los Angeles.

Morales said the driver, identified by San Jose Police as 27-year-Monica Johnson, of Campbell was driving under the influence when her car hit the pedestrian and home. 

Johnson was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

Buck's death is the 34th traffic fatality of the year in San Jose.
