Campbell Police Will Have Enhanced Staffing for July 4th

Reports of fireworks have been coming in for more than a week now and Campbell PD remind residents that they are illegal in Campbell.

Tomorrow is 4th of July and although many have already started celebrating throughout the Orchard City, Campbell Police remind everyone that fireworks are illegal in Campbell.

As for tomorrow's patrols, nothing is changing said Campbell Police Capt. Dave Carmichael.

"Our holiday plans have worked well over the past few years so we are not making any changes," Carmichael said. "Our regular staffing will be enhanced with the addition of some reserve officers (volunteers)."

As for the holiday explosives, Carmichael said not only is it is a misdemeanor to possess them but there are some unplanned consequences that go hand in hand with setting them off in a suburban setting.

"Fires and injuries from explosions are the major concerns of setting off fireworks," he said. "In particular, aerial rockets can travel a long distance and can unintentionally start a fire.

"We encourage everyone who enjoys the tradition of fireworks on the 4th of July to seek out that take place every year around the holiday."

There is someone in the neighborhood bordered by North San Tomas Aquino Rd, Latimer, Superior and Ontario that has been setting off fireworks every night between 9:30 - 10:00pm for at least the last year. Sometimes he sets them off at 2 and 3am. Bottle rockets, cherry bombs and something that sounds like a bomb going off. All the dogs start barking and our cats are terrified. The humans are also. We haven't had a single, 'quiet' night in months. We reported several months ago but nothing has changed. We are very sick of it. Can't the Campbell police stop this.? Tonight and tomorrow is going to awful.

Someone is setting off aerial shells today. Can't tell exactly where they are being set off, but can see the explosions in the sky. They look like they are going off over hwy 85 between Winchester & Saratoga Ave.

Yeah, we feel like we are in the middle of a war zone over here between Campbell Ave and Latimer and San Tomas Aquino Rd, in the same neighborhood "Mitch" posted about. Someone is launching M80s(?) and bottle rockets. The noise is really bad. What makes all these people think they are above the law and won't get caught? Each year it gets worse. Sadly lots of us, in this area, have come to dread the 4th of July.

Sorry to hear, Mitch. I will contact PD and see what they say about the issue.I've actually received several tips/complaints similar to this, so it's starting to sound like a common problem throughout the city during. Will let you know what we find out. Stay tuned ...
