Campbell Police Arrest Two More in 3rd Day of Memorial Day Weekend DUI Crackdown

Cumulative total is 105 countywide, on the final day of enhanced enforcement of drunken driving laws.

The third day of weekend-long crackdown on drunken driving this Memorial Day weekend now stands at 105 in Santa Clara County in the 72 hours since the campaign began on Friday.

Campbell police arrested two people among the 49 arrested during the 24-hour period for Sunday and in the predawn hours past midnight on Monday morning.

Fifteen law enforcement agencies participate in the "Avoid the 13" program, which means they focus enforcement around holidays where drinking and driving have been a problem.

In general, arrests have been down from the same period last year. Last year, there were 126 total arrests with no fatalities. There have been no fatalities in the same period this year, as well, which is the point of the focused enforcement.

Cumulatively, there have been five crashes with three injuries attributed to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or DUI, said Santa Clara County Sheriff's Sgt. Rick Sung. Two of them took place on Sunday, including one with an injury.
