Campbell PD and Vigilant Neighbor Help San Jose PD Catch Parolee

A domestic violence suspect was caught by Campbell Police, with the help of Code Red and one neighbor.

San Jose Police Department was in pursuit of a domestic violence suspect, but lost him when he went into a Campbell neighborhood.

According to Campbell Police Capt. Dave Carmichael, on April 13, at about 11:30 a.m. the suspect, who was also wanted for violating his parole on an assault with a deadly weapon charge was lost in the area of Nottingham Place and a perimeter to conduct yard-to-yard searches was set in place.

"We responded to assist with the search and perimeter," Carmichael said. "We used the Code Red system to alert residents in the area of Hamilton Avenue, Nottingham Place, Westchester and Sheffield drives of the search and suspect description."

After a couple of hours, the suspect wasn't found and the search was terminated. A second alert was sent notifying residents that police had not found the suspect and to be on the look out in case they see the suspect.

"Shortly after the second code red alert went out, a resident called us from the 400 block of Nottingham stating he had seen the suspect in his neighbor's yard," Carmichael said.

Campbell Police responded and found the suspect hiding in a yard waste bin in a back yard. He was arrested at about 2:45 p.m. and turned over to San Jose Police.

A third Code Red alert was then sent out to let the residents know of the arrest.

"This was a successful use of The Code Red system," Carmichael said. "An alert neighbor heard the Code Red broadcasts, saw the suspect, called the police, and provided us with accurate information that led to the suspect's capture."
