Campbell Man Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Abusing Ex's 3-Year-Old Daughter

The abuse came to light after the child was reported missing in 2011.

A man was sentenced today to three years and four months in state prison for his ex-girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter in Campbell last year.

George Rodriguez, 35, of Campbell, pleaded no contest in December to child endangerment and inflicting corporal injury on a child, his attorney Lindsey Dazel said.

The charges stem from a incident when Rodriguez's 15-year-old son found the girl rolled up in a carpet in Rodriguez's garage at his home in the 1300 block of Pollard Road.

The child, who is now 4, lives in a foster home, said prosecutor Sumerle Davis.

At the hearing today, Davis was granted a 10-year no contact order she requested for the victim.

Her mother, Jane Marin, 32, was also arrested and in September pleaded guilty to child endangerment. She was sentenced to a year in county jail.

Davis said Marin left the girl in Rodriguez's custody knowing that he was under the influence of methamphetamine.

Marin appeared in court today, but declined to speak.

Rodriguez appeared for his sentencing in a brown jumpsuit and long hair.

"It's a very sad case all the way around," Davis said. "The sentence that he was given was fair under the circumstances and in light of the early acceptance of his plea and the issues in the case."

Dazel said his performance while in custody has been "excellent." She described Rodriguez as a "peaceful person and a wonderful father."

"In our investigation, everyone that we talked to who had witnessed him around children never saw him being violent," she said.

Rodriguez has 12 children by 10 mothers, according to Davis.
