60-Year-Old Campbell Resident Missing After Officer-Involved Shooting, Carjacking

Cindy Nguyen of Campbell was carjacked and kidnapped.

Campbell resident Cindy Nguyen, 60, was at The Plant Shopping Center off of Curtner Avenue and Monterrey Road when she was carjacked.

According to a San Jose Police Department release, Nguyen was kidnapped and her whereabouts are not known at this time.

The carjacking and kidnapping, both of which occurred around noon Sept. 16 are two out of the four crimes the suspect, who's identity is not being released at this time because the investigation is still open, is being sought for.

San Jose police are searching for the carjacker/kidnapper who also shot a man while he was pumping gas at a Willow Glen gas station before carjacking Nguyen an hour later, a police spokesman.

The shopping center is about a mile away from the Chevron station on Lincoln Avenue where, at about 10 a.m., the suspect walked up to a different man while he was pumping gas in his car, produced a handgun and fired at least one round, striking the man.

The victim, who appears to be in his 30s, was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where, as of 2:30 p.m. was still being treated, Dwyer said. He is expected to survive.

The suspect fled afterward in a stolen vehicle that police later recovered, said San Jose Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer. The motive for the shooting is under investigation, according to Dwyer, who said it might have been during a robbery.

Multiple San Jose Police Department Special Operations Units conducted an 11-hour search in the area where the suspect was last seen. The suspect was not located and the grid search was terminated at approximately 5 a.m. today.

The victim's vehicle, a white, 1997 Lexus, was recovered at the scene of the officer-involved shooting last night.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect or the missing victim are urged to contact the SJPD Robbery Unit at 408-277-4166.
