Community Corner

MLK Day at Homeless Garden Project, Natural Bridges

On the Martin Luther King holiday, Lisa Bennett, owner of Synergy HomeCare of Santa Cruz, and her two sons participated in the volunteer effort at the Homeless Garden Project at the Natural Bridges farm location. Dozens of volunteers helped out in turning compost and cover crops, sifting compost, preparing beds, and sharing camaraderie and an organic, straight-from-the-garden lunch salad.

The Homeless Garden Project is one of the few community gardens in the Santa Cruz area. They participate in local farmers' markets, run a CSA, and a shop in town. They provide job training and meaningful work in the therapeutic environment of an organic farm.
