LETTER: Moreland School District Supe Responds to Sandy Hook Shooting

Campbell Patch encourages the Campbell community to share its voice, opinion and thoughts through letters to the editor.

We are all deeply saddened by the horrific events that took place at an elementary school in Connecticut this morning. It is difficult to grasp. Such a tragedy reverberates deeply with parents and educators, and the Moreland community mourns for everyone in Newtown, Connecticut.

I want to assure all of our families that we have safety and security procedures in place to protect our students and staff. We work closely with our local law enforcement officials around matters of safety for everyone in our community, and they have always been very responsive to our needs.

This is a good time for parents to discuss with their children the importance of speaking to a trusted adult concerning matters they hear about in the media and online. During this time, we have counselors available to assist with students, staff and parents in dealing with this tragedy.

We all share in the grief over crimes of this nature, and we work together to make sure that we are prepared to deal with matters of campus safety, security and student needs.
