Banning Plastic Foam in Campbell

Now that the city of San Jose has joined the city of Sunnyvale in adopting an ordinance to ban plastic foam containers, commonly known as polystyrene, I hope that our city can create the same type of ordinance.
Over 70 cities and counties including San Francisco, Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Fremont have thus far approved such ordinances, and with good reason. This type of packaging is one of the most persistent and pervasive pollutants harming our wildlife and water supplies word-wide.
Critics argue that it is recyclable but since there is little to no market for used or soiled plastic foam, waste management companies have had to store it for a time, until their available space is full. They then try to have it shipped overseas where it is simply dumped. Or, it ends up in our landfill.
Just as our City Council did with adopting the plastic bag ban ordinance, I ask that they do the right thing in adopting an ordinance to ban this pollutant from our community.
