A Day for the Dogs

It's the seventh annual National Puppy Day. Why are you thankful for your pup?

Every story is different. Some come from shelters, some come from the streets and some come straight from the breeders.

It's National Puppy Day and whether you currently have a puppy or you have a dog that used to be one, it's a nice time to stop and think about what you are thankful for about your canine.

This is Cholula, or Lula as we mostly call her. She's an almost 6-year-old Black Lab/Pit Bull Terrier Mix. The photo isn't one when she was a puppy but a more recent one that I like because it has her signature head tilt, which makes me smile.

Lula came to our family of her own accord. Just after our son was born she showed up on our front porch and never left. She and our son are the same age and get along great. She's his "big doggie."

I am thankful for our pup because of her tenderness, her sweetness and the smiles she elicits from my son when she sits and waits for a treat.

I invite everyone to upload a picture of their dog or puppy at the top of this piece and tell us in the comments what you're thankful about you furry companion.
