Family Road Trip: Day 3 & 4 of 16

A stop in Disneyland.

It's been a while since I posted here, and for good reason. I have loads to distract me but, I promised to take you with me so here I am. :)

Day three and four of our 16-day road trip takes us to one of the few "mainstream" stops we will make: Disneyland.

Now, when we haven't been back to the Magic Kingdom in more than two years since my husband's grandfather passed on. You see, he was the patriarch of the family, a Disney family to be exact.

One of my first memories of Poppy is of him, sitting in the living room of the home he had watched his family grow up in, telling me about the first time he and his wife Alma had gone to the Happiest Place on Earth.

The two were there from the very beginning, when the park first opened and made regular trip subsequent to that.

In the nearly 10 years that I knew this grand human being, he made it a point to share his love of Disney with his family and we took several family vacations to all places Disney: Disneyland, Disney World and even a Disney Cruise to the Disney Island of Castaway Key.

The look on his face as he watched the generations of his family get together, joke around and ride the rides was something that will live on in my memory and I'll always think of every time we are at the park.

To say the two days at the Disney parks were completely blissful would be a lie, and every parent would call me on it. It was hot. The lines were long (we spent 3-hours waiting for the new Cars ride) and our 6-year-old was an emotional roller coaster through it all (I don't want to wait in line! This ride is sooo cool! I'm tired. I'm hungry. Let's go again!)

But at the end of the night, as my son watched the Disney fireworks over Cinderella's castle on my husband's shoulders, I couldn't help but tear up.
