Campbell Death Notice: Beloved Farmer Sam Shiomoto Dies

Longtime Orchard City resident dies at age 95 after a year-long battle with cancer.

A second-generation Californian and a longtime resident of Santa Clara County, Sam farmed and gardened throughout the county.

Throughout his long life, Sam knew all the choice spots to pick olives, harvest mussels, hunt mushrooms, and find firewood.

Sam also cherished fishing with his brothers, family and friends in the waters of the San Francisco Bay and Santa Cruz.

He loved all of nature, and shared this love with his family.

Sam is survived by his wife Alma Misuye, daughter Gail (Steve), sons Gary, James, Jun and Eugene, granddaughter Brianna, brother Ray, sister Margaret Nomura, sister-in-law Sue, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Saichi and Kazuyo, sister Alice Kawaoka, brother Mike and daughter Elaine.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin, 640 North Fifth Street, San Jose.
