In 1974, the Campbell paramedic program began – the first paramedic program in Northern California.
Here are some fun facts on this program:
- Firefighters had to pay for their own training to become paramedics.
- , the first paramedic vehicle is housed in the Union Fire Station.
- Campbell Fire Department was the first to use compartments to hold the breathing apparatus along the side of a fire engine. The cabinets kept the equipment much cleaner and easier to reach. Now most fire engines nationwide are equipped with “Campbell Cabinets.”
- The Baby Sitting Seminar program started in 1967 and received nationwide publicity.
The city of Campbell wil be celebrating Campbell's 60th anniversary on March 28, 10:30 a.m. with a small reception at City Hall in front of the glass cabinets outside of council chambers.
