Five Things to Do in Campbell This Weekend

Campbell is loaded with events every week. Here's our "short list" of things to check out before the weekend's over.

The weather is starting to cool off, the leaves are turning colors and Campbell is, as always, alive.

If we forgot any events, please let us know what, who, when and where in the comments section below.

For now, here’s our short list of fun events this weekend:

1. Shred Fest sponsored by Mission Society of Enrolled Agents

The Mission Society of Enrolled Agents is sponsoring a free shredding event on Thursday, Sept. 27, 11:00 a.m. at the Campbell Community Center. Up to three boxes free and $5 per box donation requested for additional boxes. 

2. Book Talks in the Carriage House

As part of the 'Book Talks' series, Author and Campbell Patch blogger Tim Stanley will talk about his new book, The Last of the Prune Pickers on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Cost is $3 or free to members.

3. Business and Career Development Expo

Assemblymember Paul Fong and the city of Campbell are hosting a free business and career development expo on Friday, Sept. 28, 1-4:00 p.m. at the Campbell Community Center. Discussions will include doing business with agencies and utilities and new laws affecting small businesses. Refreshments will be served and to RSVP, call (408) 277-2003 or register online.

4. Drug Drop Off

Campbell Police, along with the DEA is holding a prescription drug take back at the Campbell Police Department this Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

5. Splash N Dash!

Campbell's WAVE is hosting a fun family event that takes place both in and out of the pool this Saturday, Sept. 29 at 8:00 a.m. The event takes place at the Campbell Community Center and costs $30 for adults participating, $15 for those 18 and younger.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth.
