Nominations Begin for 'Women of Distinction'

The city of Campbell, along with the Santa Clara County Office of Women's Policy honors women every year. Do you know a woman of distinction?

You know who they are. You've worked with them at the office, on that community service project, raising funds or putting together the set for that school musical.

Of course, we are talking about the women of distinction in Campbell. The nomination period for the 2012 Women of Distinction Awards is officially open.

There are 50 cities within the county of Santa Clara. Some have citizen-of-the-year or business-of-the-year awards; Sunnyvale has its Athena Awards. Campbell is the only one that honors women and girls this way, said Buu Thai, county Office of Women’s Policy grant coordinator in a previous interview.

In order to be nominated, women have to be at least 16 years of age and be a student, professional woman or community coordinator who lives or works within Campbell. Women and girls will be evaluated on criteria, such as the impact of their major achievements and experience.

This is the award's third year and nominations should be sent to Buu Thai, SCC Office of Women Policy, by Feb. 17, 2012.  

The awards will be presented at the Campbell City Council meeting on March 20.
