As promised (I promised many of our fb readers I'd share if they did), here is my "Share Your Love Story."
I was a student at San Jose State University at the time. It was 2001. I was aiming at adding an intro to creative writing class and was late.
Upon arrival, the professor was making introductory announcements. There was only one seat available at the back of the room. (I hated sitting at the back of the room. I was a front-of-the-room type of student), but seeing as this was my only option I approached. It was then when we locked gazes. My first thought? We would have beautiful babies.
Shocking, I know, especially since at this moment babies, let alone settling down was the furthest thing from my mind (I pictured myself a crazed journalist, running from story to story and coming home to my cat). But it was in that moment that I knew that this was something different, something else and that he was inevitably “the one.”
The professor had the class pair off for our first assignment: a short story describing our partner, what they were studying and what kind of job they had (most of us were working students).
Josh, as he introduced himself, took this opportunity to ask me all the questions you would typically ask (awkwardly might I add) during a first date. He was smooth. Where did I live? What kind of job did I have (I worked at a check cashing store on Winchester as a teller) and more importantly, did I have a boyfriend.
Saying that he made an impression is an understatement. We went out on our first date soon after and 11 years later, we are still going strong. We are celebrating our eight-year wedding anniversary this year and our son turns 6 in August. Everyday is an adventure and it leaves me at the edge of my seat, anticipating tomorrow.
