HISTORY: Campbell's First Campfire Float

This week's history photo takes us back to the 68th Annual Old Settlers' Day Celebration Parade.

In the phote are the "Blue Birds - Campbell's First Campfire Float," a large rectangular, flat float covered in white carnations with the girls both in uniform and indian costume standing on either side of a center flame motif.

The sign atop the float reads:

"Worship God; Seek Beauty; Give Service; Pursue Knowledge; Be Trustworthy; Hold onto Health; Glorify Work; Be Happy."  

This year was their Golden Jubilee. On the back of the photo, there's a stamp in red ink that reads: "Marlin Rowe, Photographer, 49042 Titson Ave, Cupertino, Calif., 2-4786."

An estimated 40,000 persons watched the 3 1/4 hour parade along its 1 1/2 mile route with at least 3,500 participants in the actual parade on May 1960.
